Tánaiste Simon Harris is due to meet European Commissioner for Trade Maroš Šefčovič in Spain to discuss the ongoing engagement between the EU-US on trade relations, and in particular the pharma sector.

Both men were in Washington earlier this month and the Tánaiste said Ireland and the Commission remain committed to finding a negotiated solution which would negate the need for tariffs.

The Tánaiste is in Valencia for a gathering of leaders of the European People's Party (EPP) which Fine Gael is aligned with.

Ireland's former European commissioner Mairead McGuinness is contesting for one of ten vice-president positions in the EPP at the meeting.

The EPP includes 84 parties and partners from 44 countries, the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Parliament, 12 EU heads of state and government and 13 members of the European Commission.

The EPP Group is the largest political group in the European Parliament with 188 members from all EU member states.
