Mother's 'heart shattered' after teenager killed in crash

The mother of an 18-year-old man who died in a crash involving a scrambler bike and a car in southwest Dublin has said her "heart is shattered".

Jason Monks was taken to Tallaght University Hospital following the crash, which happened at around 8pm last night on Citywest Avenue in Citywest, Co Dublin.

However he was later pronounced dead.

In a post on social media, his mother Donna Monks said that her "heart is shattered into a million bits" following the death of her son.

Ms Monks said there was "nothing in this world he wouldn't do for his mammy" and said the 18 years of his life were "the best 18 years of my life".

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. There were no reports of any other injuries.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have conducted a technical examination of the scene and the road has since been reopened.

Gardaí in Tallaght are appealing for any witnesses to come forward

Independent Councillor for Tallaght-South Dermot Richardson said the "community is in shock from his death. My condolences to all his family".

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward, specifically requesting any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area between 7.45pm and 8.15pm to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
