Man charged in investigation into man's death in Killybegs

A 57-year-old man has been charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to a man who subsequently died in his home in Killybegs, Co Donegal last weekend.

The body of Eddie Friel was found in his home in the Harbour View Drive estate in Killybegs on Sunday afternoon.

James Spendley of St Cummin's Hill, Killybegs was brought before Carrick-on-Shannon District Court this afternoon.

Detective Garda Niall Brady of Ballyshannon Garda Station told the court that he arrested Mr Spendley at 4.08am.

Det Brady formally charged Mr Spendley at 4.47am under Section 4 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

The court heard Mr Spendley made no reply after caution.

There was no application for bail and free legal aid was granted.

Judge Sandra Murphy remanded James Spendley in custody to appear before Sligo District court via video link tomorrow.
