A representative from the Mothers Against Genocide group has said members are taking legal advice following complaints about the treatment of a number of protesters who were arrested outside the Dáil on Sunday night.

Ten women and one man were arrested, with 11 people having received adult cautions. Three men were arrested for public order offences and are now being dealt with through the courts system.

Gardaí said any individual who believes they were treated inappropriately can make a complaint to Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman - which is now replacing GSOC as the garda complaints body.

Clare O'Connor from Mothers Against Genocide, who was outside the Dáil for a further protest this afternoon, said they are "taking legal advice to take a collective action case".

Some people had detailed their own experiences on social media about the nature of their arrest, she said.

She added that she and others would not be deterred from protesting on a regular basis about what was happening in Palestine.

A group of between 200 and 300 protesters gathered this lunchtime as the Seanad discussed the Air Navigation and Transport (Arms Embargo) Bill 2024.

"The Arms Embargo Bill is to try to stop weapons of war being transferred through Irish airspace to go to Israel," said Ms O'Connor.

She said the group was also protesting as a result of the escalation that had happened on Sunday.
