Investigation after 'childish' vandalism at Trump golf resort in Clare

Gardaí are investigating after a number of greens at US President Donald Trump's Doonbeg golf resort in Co Clare were damaged in an act of vandalism and Palestinian flags placed on the grounds.

It is understood the incident happened sometime between 5pm and midnight yesterday.

A spokesperson for the golf resort said it was not disrupting business but described what happened as a childish criminal act.

In a statement, gardaí confirmed they are investigating an incident of criminal damage that occurred at a commercial premises in west Clare.

They are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

In particular, they are asking anyone who was in the west Clare area between 5pm and midnight, and who may have video footage including dash-cam, to make this available to them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact gardaí in Kilrush who are carrying out inquiries into what happened and who may be responsible.

A spokesperson for the resort said: "This was a childish, criminal act but the incredible team at Trump Doonbeg will ensure it does not impact business. We have the greatest course in the world and are so proud of the tremendous success and we look forward to a great season ahead."

The incident occurred on the day Taoiseach Micheál Martin was visiting Mr Trump at the White House in Washington as part of the traditional St Patrick's Day celebrations in the United States.

The links course borders the famous Doughmore beach. The Trump family have run the resort at Doonbeg for over 11 years and it is a popular course particularly with US visitors.
