Gardaí say they are preparing a file for the Coroner's Court following the death of a 66-year-old Polish man at a duplex apartment in Midleton in east Cork yesterday.

It comes after a post-mortem examination was carried out on the man's body.

One line of enquiry being followed is that the man died and his wife became ill after drinking home-produced spirits.

The man was found unresponsive by gardaí responding to a emergency call to their home at Ard na Corann, Broomfield West, at around 4pm.

Paramedics who arrived soon afterwards pronounced the man dead at the scene.

His wife, who was found conscious but unwell, was treated at the scene before being taken to Cork University Hospital where she is said to be in a stable condition.
