At Clonkill GAA club, outside of Mullingar, the lights are on. The community here has been without power since early on Friday morning but a generator - usually used for floodlights - is providing much needed power.
For now, a warm mug of tea, an internet connection and some hurling action has made a difficult situation bearable.
One local resident described the community hub as " a godsend".
"Cabin fever has seriously set in so it's great to have the facility here open, that we can charge our phones and the kids even to charge their switch to keep them entertained."
