A 43-year-old prisoner who escaped from custody has been rearrested and returned to prison.

Keith Macken, from Cabra in Co Dublin, was brought to Tallaght Hospital on Saturday morning when he fled his escort at around 6am.

Gardaí from Balbriggan detained him yesterday morning and returned him to prison.

The Irish Prison Service confirmed in a statement that Macken, who was on remand awaiting sentence for assault, had been rearrested.
