More than 13,570 drivers were detected speeding between the end of November and yesterday, with one motorist caught travelling 213km/h in a 100km/h zone in Brownsbarn, Dublin.
In an update on its Christmas Road Safety Campaign, which ran from 29 November until yesterday, gardaí said that among the drivers caught speeding was one travelling 202km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N55 in Kilcogy, Co Cavan.
Other speeding offences detected was a driver travelling 121km/h in a 50km/h zone in Ardcroney, Co Tipperary, while another motorist was driving 144km/h in a 60km/h zone on the N11 in Wexford.
Another motorist was detected travelling 203km/h in a 120km/h zone on the M1 in Lusk, Co Dublin.
In total, approximately 13,573 motorists were caught speeding.
Gardaí said that 17 people were killed on the country's roads during the same period.
There were 85 serious road collisions, which resulted in a number of people receiving serious and life-threatening injuries.
There were 9,973 garda checkpoints and 939 people were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Around 2,636 vehicles were also seized by gardaí for a number of offences under the Road Traffic Act.
Gardaí have said that around 1,311 fixed charge notices were issued to drivers for using a phone while driving.
An appeal has been issued to all road users to take extra care while driving.
