Gardaí have said that 630 drivers were caught speeding on National Slow Down Day, 281 of which were intercepted.
The aim of the enforcement operation, carried out in partnership with the Road Safety Authority, is to clamp down on speeding.
Among the speeding detections yesterday was a driver travelling 136km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N18 in Ballinacurra Weston, Co Limerick.
Another driver was travelling 108km/h in a 80km/h zone in Baile An Phoill in Galway.
In Cookstown, Dublin, a driver was travelling 82km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Gardaí have said that while the number of speeding detections was a reduction in previous slow down days, drivers are being asked to continue to be mindful when travelling during the festive season.
