More than 20 different branded cheese products have been recalled from sale due to the possible presence of a bacteria which could cause illness.
The various types of cheese affected were produced by Wicklow Farmhouse and are sold in supermarkets around the country including Dunnes Stores, Spar and Supervalu.
Consumers have been advised by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) not to eat the implicated cheeses.
Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
In rare cases, the infection can be more severe and cause serious complications, according to the FSAI.
Some people are more vulnerable to the infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.
The time between the initial infection and first symptoms appearing is three weeks on average, but can range between three and 70 days.
The FSAI has asked wholesalers and distributers to contact affect customers, recall the implicated cheeses and provide a point-of-sale recall notice.
Retailers are asked to remove the implicated cheeses from sale and display recall notices at point of sale.
