The PSNI Chief Constable has said he will wait to be approached by US authorities over an incident alleged to have happened on a team holiday to Miami by Armagh's All-Ireland winning GAA squad.

Jon Boutcher was speaking at a cross-border policing conference in Co Cavan.

He was asked about the incident, which is alleged to have happened during a trip last month by the 2024 All-Ireland football champions.

Players, backroom staff, wives and girlfriends were taken to Miami for a week to celebrate their victory over Galway in July.

No details have been revealed and Mr Boutcher would not be drawn on what had happened.

The PSNI has been alerted to the incident.

"There's nothing I can really say about this incident," Mr Boutcher said.

"That is something that we would be working with other jurisdictions if they approach us. I want to be really careful.

"I think we've all got to be really responsible about what we're saying about this incident at the moment and just make sure that we're allowed to get on with working with other organisations, and we're very mindful about what we say in the public domain."

He was asked what the next steps might be, given that the alleged incident happened in the United States.

"So we would wait to be approached by another jurisdiction for any help that we can offer them.

"I'm not going to talk about this particular incident and what has happened with regards to that. Let's just get on with doing what we do. I know there's a huge amount of reporting on social media.

"I'd really ask people to stop speculating about this incident out of respect, actually for anybody who may have made any allegation.

"Let's just due process take its place."

Police confirmed yesterday that they were investigating.

"A report was made to the Police Service of Northern Ireland regarding an incident which is believed to have occurred in the United States in November," a PSNI spokesperson said yesterday.

"Enquiries are currently being carried out and no further details are available at present."
