A motorist has been caught speeding at more than twice the limit on a regional road in Co Cavan.
Gardaí said the driver was travelling at 141km/h in a 60km/h zone on the R188 at Doocassan, Drung.
Over 2,300 speeding offences by motorists were detected by An Garda Síochána and mobile safety camera vans since the Christmas road traffic enforcement operation began last Friday.
It will continue until Monday, 6 January.
Other notable speeds detected were 180km/h in a 120km/h zone on the M6 at An Carn Mór Thiar, Órán Mór, Co Galway, 128km/h in an 80km/h zone on the N2 at Drumcaw, Co Monaghan and 91km/h in a 50km/h zone on the R394 at Milltown, Castlepollard, Co Westmeath.
Gardaí said that, during the first week of the operation, there was one fatality and 20 serious collisions that resulted in a number of people receiving serious and life-threatening injuries.
More than 1,300 checkpoints were put in place and 134 people were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant - alcohol and/or drugs.
Around 430 vehicles were seized for a range of offences and about 200 Fixed Charge Notices were issued for the use of a mobile phone while driving.
An Garda Síochána said the Christmas period is one of the busiest on Irish roads when drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are at high risk of being involved in a fatal or serious crash.
It appealed to motorists to slow down, take extra care, and to give full attention to their driving.
