A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 24-year-old man in Co Tyrone at the weekend.
Kyle McDermott, who was from Burt in Co Donegal, died following an altercation near his home in Ballymagorry, Co Tyrone, on Sunday night.
Police said they received a report of an assault in the Victoria Road area of Ballymagorry near Strabane after 11.30pm.
A 24-year-man arrested in connection with the investigation remains in PSNI custody.
Detective inspector Hazel Miller said: "A young man's life has been cut short, and a loving family are now left trying to come to terms with their grief.
"My thoughts are with them at this distressing time."
Burt GAA Club (CLG Beart) issued a statement saying "the utterly devastating news came through the local area" as Mr McDermott's life was "cruelly ended far too soon".
It asked that club members and the local community support the McDermott family and each other "during the very difficult days ahead".
Daniel Crossan SDLP MLA said in a post on social media that the local community is devastated following the news.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with this young man’s family and friends, my heart goes out to them as they deal with this earth-shattering news," he said.
Sinn Féin MP Órfhlaith Begley said her "heartfelt sympathies go out to this man’s family as they come to terms with such an unimaginable loss."
She also urged anyone with information which could assist the police investigation to contact police.
Detective Inspector Miller said the PSNI investigation is still in the early stages and he appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
