Teen Meath magician works his magic to break world record

A 15-year-old magician from Co Meath has described as "incredible" his inclusion in the 2025 Guinness Book of World Records.

Cillian O'Connor completed 28 magic tricks in one minute to set a new record in the under-16s category.

"It's a family tradition that we would get the Guinness Book of World Records at Christmas," Cillian said, "and now I'm in the 70th edition - how crazy is that?"

Speaking on RTÉ's News at One, he said that he spent hours researching the record he intended to break, and how to perform tricks.

"Having dyspraxia put me at a disadvantage with some of the tricks," he said, "but that didn't stop me".

"I researched the ones that would work best for me. I watched quick tricks performed online, read books and even sought guidance from other magicians."

He said his favourite trick is the quick solve Rubik's cube which takes him one second.

Cillian, who is autistic, said he advises other young people who are autistic to "focus on what they can do, not what they can't do".

His mother Elaine O'Connor said that she cannot put her pride about her son into words.

"Not just about the Guinness records, but everything Cillian has achieved. He's overcome so many fears to just get his dreams. He never gave up," she said.

Cillian has also performed on Britain's Got Talent.

"We didn't know how he would react when he got on stage," Ms O'Connor said, "but the whole experience was really good and everyone saw the results of Cillian living his dream."

"To be a Guinness World record holder was another dream," she added, "and despite the challenges he just kept going".

"He's really inspirational and we're really proud."
