More than one quarter of Irish employers have introduced artificial intelligence (AI) to their recruitment processes, according to new research from hiring platform IrishJobs.

The IrishJobs AI & recruitment research report shows that sending reminders, tracking candidate application status and scheduling job interviews are the top ways in which organisations are using AI to automate the recruitment process.

Nearly one in five businesses use AI alone to develop job adverts.

Almost a third of recruiters said they are aware of jobseekers using AI technologies during the hiring process.

In response, employers are adapting their recruitment processes with an increased focus on interview evaluation, as well as the introduction of AI content detection software and increased levels of candidate testing.

According to the research, more than half of firms that have introduced AI to recruitment have done so in the past 12 months.

Medium businesses have the highest levels of AI adoption in recruitment, indicating their status as an early adopter of the technology.

Only 13% of small businesses have incorporated the technology in recruitment.

The study shows that 37% of recruiters are optimistic about the technology and its capacity to enable them to do their job better, while half of recruiters are unsure about the future impact of the technology.

The IrishJobs AI & recruitment research report surveyed recruitment decision makers in 250 businesses across Ireland.

"While we're still at an early stage in the lifecycle of AI, it’s clear from our findings that the technology is having a significant impact in how employers attract and recruit potential talent - more than one in four organisations in Ireland are already leveraging the technology to drive change," said Sam Dooley, Country Director of The Stepstone Group Ireland with responsibility for IrishJobs.

"The early impact of AI on increasing efficiencies in recruitment has been mixed. 51% of recruiters state that it has made their job easier, while 46% say it has made their job more complicated," Mr Dooley said.

"Our findings also revealed a growing number of jobseekers using AI tools during the recruitment processes.

"As more jobs candidates experiment with these tools, it is unsurprising to see employers put an increased emphasis on more personal evaluation methods, such as interviews, to get more comprehensive insights into candidate performance earlier in the hiring process," he added.
