A 28-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman who was found dead in Derry at the weekend.
Ciaran Murray, of Gortfoyle Place in Derry, is accused of the murder of 65-year-old Montserrat Martorell, who was found dead in a flat at Harvey Street on Saturday, and other serious offences.
Emergency services had been alerted to a fire in the property. Ms Martorell, who was originally from Spain, was found dead in a bedroom.
Police said she had been the victim of a horrific attack and sustained multiple injuries.
Mr Murray also faces a charge of arson with intent to endanger life.

He appeared at Derry Magistrates' Court this morning via videolink.
A detective inspector told the court she believed she could connect the accused to the charges.
There was no application for bail.
Mr Murray was remanded in custody until 26 September.
