Murder investigation after man dies in Tallaght stabbing

A murder investigation is under way following a fatal stabbing in the Drumcairn Estate in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the estate at around 4am. When they arrived, they found a 20-year-old man with stab wounds.

He was taken to Tallaght University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A 35-year-old man was arrested and is being held at a garda station in Dublin where he can be questioned for up to 24 hours.

The scene has been preserved for a forensic examination and the State Pathologist is due to conduct a post-mortem examination.

An incident room has been established and a senior investigating officer and a family liaison officer have been appointed.

Gardaí are trying to establish a motive for the attack.

A van appears to have been broken into at the scene, and detectives are trying to establish if it is connected to the fatal attack.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly anyone in the Drumcairn Estate area between 3am and 4am, or anyone with video recordings - including motorists with dash-cam footage - from the area, to contact Tallaght Garda Station on 01 666 6000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
