The search off the coast in Co Clare to recover the body of a boy who went missing near the Cliffs of Moher two days ago is continuing but weather conditions are again hampering efforts.

Heavy rain showers and windy conditions are making it difficult for the search teams to fly drones as they search the coastline and waters.

It is understood, the boy believed to be aged 12, got separated from his family who was holidaying from overseas near the cliffs on Tuesday.

The Irish Coast Guard in a statement offered their sincere condolences to the family and all affected by the tragedy.

It said it continued to support the garda-led operation which is being coordinated by the Coast Guard Rescue Coordination Centre in Valentia, with Doolin Coast Guard using boats, drones and cliff top searches.

Civil Defence volunteers from five counties are searching the cliff tops from the Cliffs of Moher north to Doolin using drones to see down onto the rocky coastline below.

Volunteer with the Civil Defence Gerard Sheehan said conditions had become unfavourable as the wind and rain had picked up again in the afternoon making it difficult to put their drones up.

However, he said, they had carried out extensive searches in between showers.

Coast Guard helicopter R115 has been carrying out sea and shore searches since around midday.

An extensive search was also conducted by the Garda Water Unit with support from the Doolin Coast Guard boat team.
