An elderly man has died in a fire at a house on the campus of the University of Limerick.
It is understood the man was aged in his late 80s or early 90s and had been an academic.
The alarm was raised around around 11.40pm last night after the fire broke out at the house in Kilmurry Village.
An investigation is under way and the man's body remains at the scene, which has been preserved for a technical examination.
Gardai said a post-mortem examination will be carried out.
They added that the results of post-mortem and technical examination will determine the course of their investigation.
