A 26-year-old man has appeared in court charged with attempting to abduct a toddler in Dublin yesterday.
He was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged last night.
The man has been remanded in custody for a week and there was no application for bail.
Sergeant William Godfrey told the court he arrested the man under section 17 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act at 12.06pm yesterday.
He said the accused was detained in a garda station and interviewed in relation to the offence.
He was charged shortly after 10.15pm last night and made no reply to the charge.
The man is accused of "intentionally" attempting to take a child under the age of 16 years of age "without lawful authority or reasonable excuse".
Judge Monika Leech acceded to an application for reporting restrictions to be imposed.
The court was told that there were "safety issues", "quite a lot of activity on social media" and that "the fear is that would get to such a level of knock-on consequences".
Sergeant Godfrey agreed and described it as "a very sensitive matter" which "has a propensity to cause issues".
The judge imposed reporting restrictions preventing the media from naming the accused and remanded him in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court on 10 May.
