Places where people with disabilities still regularly encounter barriers in society will be highlighted at a public meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters.

More than 20 witnesses will detail difficulties in areas such as transport, healthcare, social protection, housing and the built environment.

Committee chairperson Michael Moynihan said that various groups within the community of persons with disabilities remain underrepresented in society.

The Cork North West TD said: "Many of their voices and perspectives are still largely excluded from decision making processes at all levels.

"As a committee, we have a vitally important role in tackling this by monitoring Ireland's progress in making the UNCRPD (United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) a reality for people with disabilities."
