A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man's body was discovered in Kilcock, Co Kildare this afternoon.
The victim, aged in his 50s, died violently at an apartment on School Street in the village and may have been stabbed.
His body remains at the scene which has been preserved for a forensic examination.
Gardaí say that a post-mortem examination is to be carried out tomorrow at Naas General Hospital.
The man in custody, who is in his 40s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and is being detained at a garda station in Kildare.
He can be held for up to 24 hours.
An incident room has been established and a senior investigating officer and family liaison officer have been appointed.
It is understood that detectives are not looking for anyone else at this time.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the School Street area between 3pm and 4pm today, including those with camera footage, to contact them.
