Mixed Martial Arts fighter Conor McGregor has 12 weeks to disclose how much he received from the sale of a whiskey brand in 2021 as part of a High Court action by his former sparring partner and friend Artem Lobov.
Lawyers for Mr Lobov successfully argued for an order for discovery of certain documents as part of an action aimed at enforcing what he alleges was an agreement between the men that Mr Lobov receive 5% of sale proceeds.
In a case initiated a year ago and which has yet to be fully heard, today the Deputy Master of the High Court ordered that Mr McGregor's side disclose documents relating to his share in the proceeds of the sale and records relating to his interest in the Proper 12 Whiskey brand.
He was not ordered to disclose other documents relating to dealings between two other shareholders which the Deputy Master said were not related to the central issue in the case.
Lawyers for Mr McGregor had opposed the application, arguing the documents sought were commercially sensitive.
Mr McGregor is said to have earned more than a hundred million euro when he sold his share in the Proper 12 Whiskey brand in 2021.
Mr Lobov claims he was the co-founder of the concept to develop a whiskey brand with Mr McGregor and was later "edged out" .
After the sale he was offered €918,000 by Mr McGregor who denies there was any agreement between the two as claimed by Mr Lobov.
Counsel for Mr Lobov, Liam Bell, told the court the information was needed for their cases.
Counsel for Mr McGregor, Shelley Horan, read a sworn statement affidavit filed by Mr McGregor's solicitor Michael Staines which said there was no basis for the discovery and the category was extremely broad and would extend to commercially sensitive documents.
In a sworn statement, Mr Lobov’s solicitor Dermot McNamara said the disclosure of these documents was relevant and necessary.
The solicitor claimed Mr McGregor had undervalued the share of the sale Mr Lobov was entitled to and had concealed relevant information in relation to Mr Lobov’s entitlement.
Outside court, Mr Lobov said he was delighted with the decision and was looking forward to his day in court.
