The Childline service has said that it was contacted by over 700 children over the Christmas period, adding that it expected today to be one of its busiest this year.
Some 734 children were in touch with Childline on 24 and 25 December, with the service saying it expected around 400 more to make contact today.
The 24-hour line - provided by the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children - offers a free, non-judgemental and non-directive service.
Chief Executive John Church said that "Christmas is sadly just another day" for many children, and that the issues some face can be even worse at this time of year.
For others, he added, Christmas can "present new worries and concerns" such as abuse, neglect and loneliness.
"We are so thankful to all our volunteers who gave their time and continue to do so across the festive period; they leave their own families at Christmas to ensure there is always someone on the other end of the line when a child or young person needs them."
Childline can be contacted at Childline.ie, by calling 1800 66 66 66, or through the webchat service on its website.
