Rise in theft and robbery offences, according to CSO

There has been an increase in theft and robbery offences, according to the latest CSO recorded crime figures.

Robbery, extortion and hijacking offences increased by a figure of 485, 24% for the year up to September, when compared to the same period last year.

Theft was up 16%, almost an additional 10,000 offences over the 12 months

However fraud was down 27% while cases of attempted murder and related offences fell by 6%.

There were also reductions in homicide and sex offences,

Drugs offences remained static.
