Irish man killed fighting against Russia in Ukraine

An Irish man who travelled to Ukraine to fight against the Russian invasion has been killed.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance.

A spokesperson for the department said the man died in Ukraine last Friday 8 December.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the case and [is] providing consular assistance," a spokesman said.

"As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases."

The man has been identified as Graham Dale from Raheny in Dublin.

It is believed Mr Dale travelled to the country last year from his home in the US, where he had previous military experience as a former marine.

Tributes have been paid to Mr Dale on social media describing him as sweet, kind, stubborn and curious with a huge heart.
