"Significant concern" was expressed by RTÉ's Audit and Risk Committee over how the sponsorship revenue for Toy Show The Musical was reflected in the show's accounts.
At a meeting in July, the committee expressed its unhappiness at the figures which had been provided to it, and asked about accounts from RTÉ’s commercial arm where the musical's figures were being accounted for.
Members of the committee agreed to hold a further discussion about their concerns and also agreed to brief the full board on the matter.
Details of the meeting have been released under the Freedom of Information Act.
However, the minutes do not make it specific what the concerns expressed relate to.
Toy Show The Musical, based on the annual Late Late Toy Show, made a loss of €2.2 million.
The July meeting of the Audit and Risk Committee had been called by Chair of the RTÉ Board Siún Ní Raghallaigh to discuss concerns about the loss-making project.
Consultants Grant Thornton have since been commissioned to carry out a report into the musical and those findings are expected to be published in the coming days.
At an earlier meeting of the committee in May, then incoming Director General of RTÉ Kevin Bakhurst noted that the musical would not be performed this year.
Ms Ní Raghallaigh told a meeting of the full RTÉ Board in July that there was a "lapse of control, and a lack of rigorous interrogation" of the project by the board.
The board admitted that there should have been more "stress testing" of the project by the directors.
Records show there was no formal approval process by the board for the musical, although members had been provided with a presentation on the project which included the figures involved.
