Jonathan Irwin died early today, aged 82

The death has been announced of Jonathan Irwin, the founder of the Jack and Jill Children's Foundation.

Mr Irwin, who was aged 82, died early today after a short illness.

In a statement, the Jack and Jill Foundation said Mr Irwin was a "unique, articulate" and charismatic "showman".

During his career he was a bloodstock agent, working for BBA Ireland, The Turf Club and Goffs.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann O'Brien and six children, and he was predeceased by three sons.
