Met Éireann has said that an Arctic airflow will continue into the weekend until early next week.

The forecaster said this will bring very cold day and night time temperatures, as well as sharp to severe frost and icy stretches.

Dense fog is also expected, along with some showers of hail and sleet which will fall as snow on higher ground.

Met Éireann has also extended a Status Yellow warning for low temperatures and ice across Ireland until Sunday.

The warning, which comes into place at 5pm and covers all counties, will now remain in effect until 12pm on Sunday.

There is a warning that very cold day and night time temperatures could result in slippery conditions underfoot, hazardous travelling conditions and animal welfare issues.

Temperatures are forecast to fall to -4 degrees, with a chance of hail, sleet and snow showers in parts.

A Status Yellow fog warning for all of Ireland will be in place at the same.

Poor visibility and freezing fog is expected.

Parts of the UK could see 5cm of snow today with temperatures expected to drop as low as -10C in some areas.
