Vapes sent for analysis after teens fall ill in Cork

Gardaí in Fermoy in Co Cork have sent a number of vapes and e-cigarettes for analysis to Forensic Science Ireland after they were seized in searches of a commercial premises and a number of homes in the town.

The searches followed an incident in which four teenage boys became ill at a school on Wednesday.

The boys were described as having been quite sick, but did not require further medical treatment after they were assessed by ambulance crews that were called to the school.

The school involved has not been identified.

Gardaí are now conducting an investigation into the cause of the boys' illness.

A commercial premises and some homes in the area were searched yesterday and a number of items were seized and sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

Gardaí have described the seized items as being "of potentially evidential value".

They are also appealing to anyone who may have information on the case to contact them at Fermoy Garda Station on 025 82100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.

The Garda Press Office has also issued guidance and safety advice from the HSE in relation to vaping and the use of e-cigarettes.
