Two Irish entries have been shortlisted for the James Dyson Award, an international engineering competition for young inventors.
Joel Olympio won the Irish leg of the contest with his invention 'Oasis', a wearable device that reduces visual distractions in open environments to help people with ADHD.
Mr Olympio has advanced to the international shortlist, from which billionaire inventor James Dyson will select his global winners who each receive €34,000.
The other shortlisted entry from Ireland is Ergotech, invented by George Clarke.
Ergotech is an ergonomic laparoscopy tool to improve surgeons' comfort and reduce wrist strain.
In all, 20 entries have been shortlisted from around the world with the global winners due to be announced on 15 November.
"The James Dyson Award provides a platform for young inventors to showcase their innovative ideas on a global stage," said Hong Fei Hu, Head of Electronics at Dyson.
"It was refreshing to see so many inventions offering solutions ranging across medicine and sustainability," he said.
