Man, 30s, dies after collision in Wicklow

A man has died following a collision in Co Wicklow this evening.

The man, 30s, was driving on Abbey Street in Arklow when he struck a parked car shortly before 8pm.

Emergency services treated the driver at the scene but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

There were no other passengers in the vehicle and the parked car was unoccupied at the time.

The man's remains were removed to the mortuary at St Columcille's Hospital in Loughlinstown, Co Dublin, where a postmortem will take place.

The outcome of the postmortem will determine the course of the investigation, gardaí said.

This road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by forensic collision investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

Anyone who was travelling in the Abbey Street area of Arklow at the time and has video footage (including dash-cam), is asked to make it available to gardaí.
