The latest death bring to 144 the number of people who have died on Irish roads so far this year.
Those figures are up significantly on last year and are among the worst recorded in recent times.
These road deaths also came during Irish Road Safety Week.
New figures show that the number of gardaí involved in roads policing has dropped by more than a third since 2009.
That year, 1,046 gardaí were involved in roads policing, but this year, that figure has fallen to an average of 676.
Peadar Toibin, Aontú Leader, who obtained the figures in a parliamentary question, called for more investment in the recruitment and retention of gardaí.
"It's incredible that over the last 14 years, there's been a massive fall in the number of gardaí policing the roads, a fall of 36%," he said.
"That figure is falling every single month this year as well.
"Unfortunately, there is a direct correlation between this fall in garda figures and the increased deaths. We're urging the minister to make sure that we start to fund gardaí properly, to treat the gardaí properly and to recruit more."
Minister of State for Transport Jack Chambers says the Government want to recruit gardaí and have a number of measures in train to try tackle rising road deaths.
"There are multiple factors which contribute to the increase in road fatalities," Mr Chambers said.
"Strengthened enforcement is a key focus for the Government and that's why a 20% increase in garda hours will help improve visibility and enforcement.
"But we're also working with the Commissioner and his team to ensure that we improve visibility and see strengthened enforcement from roads police units between now and Christmas."
