Local authority workers end industrial action

Fórsa were in dispute over a job evaluation scheme

Local authority workers, who are members of the Fórsa trade union, have ended their industrial action.

The union had accused local authority management of failing to engage meaningfully on the establishment of a job evaluation scheme.

Job evaluation assesses if a job's grade is properly matched to its duties and responsibilities.

Both sides attended talks at the Workplace Relations Commission yesterday and today the WRC issued a communication on the matter.

"Subject to the provisions of the next Public Service Agreement the parties are committed to engaging on scoping out options for a job evaluation scheme in the sector," the agreement stated.

In a communication to union members, Fórsa said it had secured a roadmap to job evaluation and that a ban on dealing with requests from politicians was being withdrawn.

"Further detailed negotiations will be required at the scoping out stage, but it is an important step to achieving the kind of job evaluation scheme that our members need and deserve," said Fórsa National Secretary Richy Carrothers.
