There is a buzz of anticipation in the air in the Co Down village of Dundrum.

Nestled at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, it is shrouded in cloud, and it has been raining for most of the day.

But that has not dampened spirits.

One of their own, Patrick Kielty, will be in the spotlight tonight when he steps in as host of The Late Late Show for the first time, the first "nordie" to do so.

"It's quite exciting that a member of the local community has got such a prestigious job, I think it's wonderful," says a villager as she leaves Brennan's shop, just a few hundred metres from the Kielty family home.

"Everyone round here speaks very highly of him, he's great for the community, he's done lots of great stuff and he's very generous supporting local events."

"It's great," says a punter in the Dundrum Inn, where Patrick Kielty and his wife, television presenter Cat Deeley, occasionally pop in for a drink when he is home to visit his mum and two brothers.

"There's a lot of pride about a local lad getting this job. He'll be great."

Customers in the bar are in for a treat tonight, with a unique twist on "one for everyone in the audience".

Owner Phil Patterson decided to create a game called "Paddy's Bingo".

If The Late Late Show host says a certain word, Phil will spin a wheel on the wall and there will be a free round of whatever drink the red arrow finishes on.

"You better have plenty of drink in," shouts a customer as Phil gives it a test spin.

It could be Guinness, prosecco, cocktails or lemonade.

"As a village we were all excited that Paddy got the gig, it's fantastic," Phil says.

"We thought we'd just embrace it and have a bit of fun and encourage people to come out and watch it and join together in celebration."

So, what happens if Patrick Kielty says the magic word more than once?

"That's my fear," he laughs.

"I've hedged my bets a bit with a few soft drinks on the wheel. I'm just hoping it doesn't land on an alcoholic drink every time."

Customers will be treated to a free drink, but only if a certain word is said on the show

Rachel Wallace and her niece Alison Crothers reckon everyone in the village will tune in tonight.

"He's put Dundrum on the map," says Rachel. "There's certainly a buzz, everybody's up to high doh about it."

"Best of luck to him," says Alison. "He'll do great."

So, what is the magic word in Paddy's Bingo?

All will be revealed on the Late Late Show.
