The Irish food marketing and promotions body, Bord Bia is currently conducting an investigation into the use of its Quality Assurance mark (Q Mark) by a supermarket chain operating in Ireland.
The investigation first reported by the Irish Farmers Journal relates to the use of the Q Mark on in-store promotional materials adjacent to produce that is not quality assured under Bord Bia's scheme.
It is understood the produce concerned is non-Irish grown vegetables from the UK and from other EU countries.
The Bord Bia Quality assurance scheme generally guarantees meat and plant products are grown, processed and packed in Ireland or on the island of Ireland.
The Q Mark logos can only be used with Bord Bia's permission and it carries out audits from time to time to check that standards are being adhered to.
Bord Bia became aware of the issue last week, and has been liaising with the supermarket chain in question.
