Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has travelled to meet police in Dubai to discuss the Kinahan gang.

The leaders of the Kinahan gang - Christopher Kinahan and his sons Daniel and Christopher junior - are believed to be based in the United Arab Emirates.

The development was first reported by the Irish Examiner and confirmed by garda officials this morning.

Mr Harris is being accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Serious and Organised Crime Justin Kelly.

In a statement, An Garda Síochána said Commissioner Harris and senior garda officers regularly liaise and work with international law enforcement partners to disrupt and dismantle organised crime gangs.

This has included the Commissioner travelling to the US, Colombia and Europe as part of this work.

The statement added that Mr Harris, along with the departments of justice and foreign affairs, has expanded the force's network of international liaison offices with new offices already established in the US, South America, and most recently in the Middle East, with a further office to be established shortly in Thailand.
