A 20-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a teenager who was stabbed to death in Swords, Co Dublin earlier this year.
Brandon Gavin, of Brookdale Road, River Valley, Swords, is accused of the murder of Marius Mamaliga at Forest Court in Swords on 23 February.
Mr Gavin was brought before Cloverhill District Court this morning charged with the murder of the 19-year-old.
Mr Mamaliga was attacked and stabbed at Forest Court in Swords at around 7.15pm on Sunday 23 February.
He was treated at the scene for his injuries and taken to Beaumont Hospital, but died there three days later.
Detective Garda Conor Tumbelton gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.
He told the court that he arrested Mr Gavin at 10.40am and when he was charged with the murder of Marius Mamaliga he made no reply.
The detective said the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed trial on indictment on one count of murder and asked that the previous charge that Mr Gavin had faced, assault causing serious harm to Mr Mamaliga, be withdrawn.
There was no application for bail as bail cannot be granted on a murder charge in the district court.
Defence barrister Sharon Rossiter applied for free legal aid, which was granted.
Judge Cephas Power remanded Mr Gavin in custody pending preparation of a book of evidence to appear again at Cloverhill District Court on 26 July.
