Man arrested after woman's body found in Cork house

A man has been arrested as part of a murder investigation into a fatal assault in Cork city, in which a 38-year-old woman died.

The woman was discovered at a house in Cardinal Court, Wilton after gardaí were alerted around 10pm last night.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Members of the Cork City Divisional Crime Scene Investigation Unit have been conducting a forensic examination of the house and its vicinity throughout today.

The woman's body was removed to Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination was carried out.

The post-mortem examination has been completed but gardaí are not releasing the results, for operational reasons.

It is understood the woman was the mother of a five-year-old child, who was not in the house at the time.

She was originally from India and is understood to have been living in the house in Cardinal Court for some months.

A family liaison officer has been appointed by gardaí to support the woman's family.

A man in his early 40s was arrested at the scene and is being questioned at a garda station in Cork, where he can be held for up to 24 hours.
