Sixteen vehicles operated by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) were being driven without insurance for a period in 2021 and the lack of insurance only came to light when one was involved in a collision.

That is according to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Seamus McCarthy who was addressing the Public Accounts Committee this morning.

He said the lack of insurance came about as a result of an administrative error.

The CAG also told the committee that there was an ongoing fraud investigation by gardaí into IFI and that a number of other reports and review have taken place after the resignations of two chairpersons, board resignations and the suspension of the board by Minister for the Environment Eamon Ryan earlier this year.
