A 22-year-old man from Cullohill in Co Laois, who died following a drowning incident in Greece over the weekend, has been named locally as Rory Deegan.
It is believed Mr Deegan, who had been working in Greece for the month, was found unresponsive in a swimming pool by friends on Sunday on the island of Zakynthos.
Mr Deegan was a member of a well-known family who are in a prominent business in Urlingford, Co. Kilkenny.
People in both localities are saddened by the news.
Members of the family are currently being supported by family members and members of both communities.
A spokesperson from the Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is aware of the case and is providing assistance to the family.
