An investigation is under way after an elderly man died following a fire at a house in Co Louth.
Emergency services were called to the scene in Termonfeckin in the early hours of this morning.
Two men, one aged in his late 80s and one in his late 50s, were taken from the house and brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
The elder of the two men was later pronounced dead, while the second man is being treated for smoke inhalation and burns.
A technical examination of the scene will be carried out after it has been made safe by fire services.
Louth County Fire Service said appliances from a number of stations across the county were mobilised to attend the blaze at the house on the Strand Road, after it received "multiple calls to a large fire."
In a statement, it said two appliances from Drogheda Fire Station, along with two from Ardee, one from Dunleer, as well as an Aerial Appliance and a fire appliance from Dundalk Fire Station were all deployed.
The fire service said crews were faced with "a well developed" blaze in a large house, when they arrived at the scene.
"Due to the intensity of the fire, four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus accessed the property using ladders through a first floor window."
The man who died was discovered in an upstairs room on the first floor of the two-storey house.
Louth County Fire Service said crews "battled the blaze" for four hours before it was brought under control.
