Police in Northern Ireland have tonight revisited the scene of the attempted murder of a senior officer in Co Tyrone last Wednesday night.
Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell was shot several times by two gunmen at a sports complex near Omagh and remains in a critical but stable condition.
His young son witnessed the attack.
The dissident republican group known as the New IRA has admitted the shooting.
Officers from the PSNI's Major Investigations Team tonight handed out leaflets to motorists and spoke to people using the complex.
Detective Chief Superintendent Eamonn Corrigan, the senior investigating officer, said he hopes to jog memories.
"John was shot multiple times and, when he fell to the ground, the gunmen continued to fire at him," he said.
"This cowardly attempt to take a life took place in the midst of terrified children and parents, and, disturbingly, in front of John’s young son.
"Any number of adults or children could easily have been seriously injured or killed.
"We will work relentlessly to bring those responsible to justice and tonight our officers have revisited the scene.
"We’ve been handing out appeal leaflets. We’ve been speaking with pedestrians, drivers and passengers, and have carried out extensive house-to-house inquiries."

Earlier this week, the PSNI released CCTV footage of the car used by the gunmen.
The blue Ford Fiesta, registration number MGZ 6242, had been fitted with false plates, FRZ 8414, prior to the attack.
The car was later found abandoned and burnt-out on the Racolpa Road.
A reward of up to £20,000 has been offered by Crimestoppers, a charity and independent of the police, for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the attack.
Detectives investigating the attempted murder today arrested two more men.
A 33-year-old man was arrested in Omagh and a 57-year-old man was detained in Belfast.

Both were arrested under the Terrorism Act and taken to Musgrave Crime Suite in Belfast for questioning.
One other man remains in custody, while five have been released after questioning.
