A 41-year-old Mayo woman has died following a hiking incident in western Australia.
Fiona Lavelle was exploring the Hellfire Bay area when concerns were raised after she failed to make contact with her husband.
A search team subsequently discovered her body at the Cape Le Grand National Park.
The nurse-turned-paramedic was originally from Keel on Acaill.
She emigrated to Australia some years ago with her husband John McLoughlin, who is from Islandeady near Castlebar.
Mayo County Councillor Michael McLoughlin said the exact details of what happened were still unknown.
He described the deceased as a "lovely person, who loved the outdoor life, especially hiking".
It is understood that she has been doing relief ambulance work in the Norseman area of Western Australia in recent weeks.
A report is being prepared for the relevant coroner and a post-mortem examination will be carried out.
It is expected that the remains will be repatriated to Ireland for burial.
