A long-serving member of the Defence Forces has died in a skydiving accident in Spain.
The soldier was not on active duty at the time of the tragedy which happened during his personal time.
It is understood the man was a very experienced skydiver and had served in the Defence Forces for a number of decades.
The Defence Forces said it is aware of the case and is liaising with the man's family.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said it could not comment on the details of the case but said it stands ready to provide consular assistance.
