There will be a pool of high-powered electric vehicle chargers every 60km within three years under a plan going before Cabinet this morning.
Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan will outline to Government the details of a €100m publicly funded EV Charging Infrastructure Strategy.
These public chargers will be put in place to complement home charging, which currently accounts for the vast majority of charging.
The Government is also expecting that private investment in charging infrastructure will continue in the years ahead.
The strategy aims to assure car users of the feasibility of switching to an electric vehicle.
The plan will address home and apartment charging, neighbourhood charging as well as motorway or en-route options.
The minister is also set to bring a memo to Government on the €25 billion Transport Strategy for the Greater Dublin Area up to 2042.
This will set out the transport policy for the region, which includes the counties of Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow.
The strategy is divided into three phases - the first up to 2030, the second runs from 2031 to 2036 and the third phase is from 2037 to 2042.
It is understood that the second phase will see the development of the MetroLink, the Navan rail line, along with the extension of the LUAS to Finglas, Lucan and Bray.
