A man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a woman in her 40s, whose body was discovered in an apartment in Dublin this morning.
The woman was found unresponsive at the Royal Canal Park in Ashtown at around 10am after gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene. She was pronounced dead a short time later.
It appears the woman died violently and may have sustained a number of stab injuries.
Gardaí say they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the investigation.
The arrested man, who is in his 50s, is detained at Finglas Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
The scene has been preserved for a forensic examination.
The body has been removed to the City Morgue and a post-mortem examination will be conducted by State Pathologist Dr Linda Mulligan tomorrow.
Gardaí continue to investigate the death and all the resources of a murder inquiry are being deployed.
