There has been a substantial increase in theft in Ireland, up 39%, according to the latest CSO crime figures.
More than 62,000 thefts were recorded in the 12 months to the end of September, more than 170 a day.
There were also significant increases in other categories, including attempted murder, assault, burglary and kidnapping and related offences, but decreases in organised crime offences, such as drugs and weapons offences
Fraud offences were up 8% over the year, but dropped by 38% in the three months when compared to last year.
The statistics are published under reservation, which means the CSO is not happy with the accuracy of the Garda Pulse figures.
Commenting on the publication, Jim Dalton, Statistician in the Crime & Criminal Justice Section, said the statistics show that "most categories of crime were up in the 12 months to September 2022 compared with a year earlier".
