Man, 20s, dies in hospital following Monasterevin assault

A man in his 20s who was injured in an assault in Monasterevin, Co Kildare at the weekend has died in hospital.

He has been named as 29-year-old Dylan McCarthy, from Kilmallock in Co Limerick.

Mr McCarthy was found unresponsive in the town shortly after 12.30am on Sunday 21 August.

He was taken to Tallaght University Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Monday afternoon.

Gardaí and emergency services had been called to Dublin Road in the town following reports of an altercation involving a group of people at the entrance of a premises.

A second man, aged in his early 50s, was treated at the scene for apparent facial injuries and taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise.

He has since been transferred to Tallaght University Hospital, where his condition remains serious.

It is understood that both men are related.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for anyone that witnessed the incident to contact them.

Anyone who was in the Dublin Road area of Monasterevin between 12.15am and 12.45am on Sunday 21 August is asked to contact investigating gardaí.

Any road users who were in the area and who may have camera footage, including from dash cameras, is asked to make this available to gardaí.
